The Dover Police Department allows officers to enage in extra-duty employment on a voluntary basis. In order to ensure that extra-duty assignments are administered and conducted in accordance with all applicable laws, ordinances, written directives and prevailing opinions, the Chief of Police has designated a supervisor of the department as the extra-duty employment coordinator. Additionally, the Dover Police Department has been utilizing the services of EXTRA DUTY SOLUTIONS since 2019 to schedule and ensure coverage for these assignments at no cost to the police department.  

The Police Department utilizes a point system to award extra-duty assignments. The officer with the lowest number of points, and who volunteered for the assignment, is awarded the extra duty assignment. 

  • Four (4) Hours Minimum per Request 
  • Cancellation Policy: A Minimum of Two (2) Hours Notice
